Procidane in the calendar

The processfall downimo 23 Maggio, at 18,30 at the “Nutrimenti Bookshop” bookshop, in via Rome, the “Le Procidane” calendar will be presented. The initiative is by Donatella Pandolfi and Elisabetta Montaldo who have worked to reconstruct the ancient Procidan dress on some women and some men of all ages, recreating a small environment according to the traditions of the island both in the costume and in the setting, immortalizing everything in a series of shots that become a calendar.

«The costume of the women of Procida, with the language of colored silks and pure gold embroidery - says Elisabetta Montaldo - it tells the whole story of the most seafaring island. The origin of the dress sinks into the Islamic and Byzantine Middle Ages revealed in the geometric cut of oriental clothing and in the massive embroideries inspired by waves and shells that celebrate female power with their opulence. Some of these bosses, photographed for the first time in the calendar worn by beauties of all ages, they are dated between the mid-eighteenth and nineteenth centuries: an era of particular prosperity for the millenary navigation and shipbuilding industry of Procida. With this work - concludes Montaldo - I wanted to represent and pay homage to the women of the sailors, the guardians of the island and the sublime craftswomen of the needle, how their men paid homage to them by covering them with gold and oriental fabrics».

For the preparation of the calendar, the photos are by Donatella Pandolfi, Elisabetta Montaldo's costumes, the jewels of Maddalena Costagliola of Polidoro; they collaborated, Furthermore, "Slow Costumes"-Roma- and many families from Procida.
